Our beloved starter made its transatlantic journey in 1898 with my great-grandmother, Julia (nee Coyne) Delehanty, as she emigrated from Ireland to Ellis Island in New York. From there, my family settled in the South End of Boston and Pittsburgh, PA, nurturing countless loaves of bread and bringing a taste of home to a new land.
